Conversation framework, not a robotic script

Marketing Agency Sales Script

A useful sales script gives your team structure without forcing every conversation into the same wording. The goal is to earn permission to continue, understand the prospect’s situation, qualify whether there is a real opportunity, and agree a sensible next step.

Cold call opener

Opening
“Hi [First name], Bram here from [Agency]. I know this is out of the blue—mind if I take 30 seconds to explain why I called, and you can tell me if it’s relevant?”
Why it works: acknowledges the interruption, sets a small time commitment, and gives the buyer control.
Reason
“We work with [type of company] on [specific business outcome]. I came across [Company] because [truthful context], and I was curious how you’re currently handling [problem category].”
Do not claim you know they have a problem. Use context to ask a real question.
If engaged
“Got it. What’s working well with that today, and where—if anywhere—does it still feel constrained?”
Move from pitch mode into diagnosis as quickly as possible.

Discovery call structure

Context
“Before I explain anything about us, can I understand what prompted you to take the conversation?”

Listen for a real change, problem, goal, trigger, or internal project.

Current state
“How are you handling this today?”

Understand current providers, internal resources, tools, channels, process, and perceived strengths.

Impact
“What happens if nothing changes over the next six months?”

Use only if the prospect has already described a genuine problem. Do not manufacture urgency.

Desired state
“If this worked well, what would be meaningfully different?”

Get beyond vanity metrics and clarify the business outcome.

Decision
“Who else would normally be involved in evaluating something like this?”

Map stakeholders without turning discovery into an interrogation.

Timing
“Is there a reason this needs to move now, or are you still exploring?”

Separate real buying windows from general curiosity.

How to position your agency without over-pitching

Stronger

“Based on what you’ve described, the part we may be able to help with is [specific issue]. Our approach is [brief method], and the first step would be [clear next step].”

This connects your offer directly to what the prospect said.

Weaker

“We’re a full-service award-winning agency offering SEO, PPC, social, web design, automation, branding, email, and more.”

This makes the buyer do the work of deciding what matters.

Common objections and useful responses

“Send me some information.”“Happy to. So I send something relevant rather than a generic deck, what are you most interested in understanding—approach, pricing, examples, or how we’d handle [topic]?”
“We already have an agency.”“Understood. Are you completely covered in this area, or are there any gaps the current team doesn’t handle?” If they are happy and covered, respect the answer.
“Not a priority right now.”“Makes sense. Is there a specific point when it becomes more relevant—budget cycle, launch, contract renewal, or something else?”
“Too expensive.”“Understood. Is the concern that the investment is outside budget, or that the expected value isn’t clear enough yet?” This separates affordability from perceived value.
“We can do it internally.”“You may be right. Where does the internal approach work well today, and what—if anything—creates the most capacity or expertise pressure?”

Close the call with a concrete next step

Good fit
“It sounds like there may be a fit around [specific problem]. The sensible next step would be [proposal / audit / technical session / stakeholder call]. Does that make sense?”
Not ready
“I don’t think forcing a proposal makes sense yet. You mentioned [future trigger]. Why don’t we pick this back up around [timing]?”
No fit
“Based on what you’ve shared, I don’t think we’re the right fit for this. I’d rather be clear about that than push a project that won’t help.”
